Secondary Glaucomas :A Logical Approach to Management
Dr. M. Shiraz Ali
Secondary glaucomas show a poor IOP control with ocular hypotensive agents or filtering surgery in the latestages of the disease. Thus, early detection is important to maximize the chance of a therapeutic response. From diagnosis to management to follow-up, secondary glaucomas test the clinical skills of even the mostexperienced glaucoma specialist. The good thing about secondary glaucomas is the fact that reversal ortreatment of the underlying cause will often normalize the pressure and may, indeed be curative, if permanent. However, a single management strategy does not apply in all instances. Selection of the best suitable therapyout of medical, laser or surgical treatment options is a management challenge. In this IC, we will presentcertain guidelines and highlight particular treatment strategies in the management of patients with secondaryglaucomas. The current IC has been designed to be relevant, scientific and practical.
