Introduction: Peribulbar anaesthesia is an integral part of ocular surgeries. Administration of peribulbar block can lead to complications like perforation of globe. It is a rare but disastrous complication.
Method: A 55 year old male was posted for cataract surgery, his pre op vision-2/60. Patient was given a peribulbar block by a junior resident doctor during which perforation of globe occurred. However the situation was not identified and surgery was done. Patient came with vision of Hand Movement positive on 3rd post op day. He had to be taken up for a series of procedures like vitrectomy and laser. On long term follow up the patient is maintaining vision of 6/36.
Conclusion: Although rare, perforation of globe during peribulbar anaesthesia is a possibility in case of a junior ophthalmologists or inexperienced optometrists. It is essential to realize that perforation has occurred and surgery should be postponed with proper management.
