PURPOSE- To evaluate final visual outcome after management of open globe injuries
METHODS- Prospective Study was conducted in a tertiary eye care from Jun17 to Mar18.Demographic data, mode of injury & object causing injuries were analysed.Slit lamp examination was done & patients were taken for primary repair at the earliest.Following primary repair B-scan was done to asses any posterior segment pathology. Patients were followed at 2, 4 ,6 & 8 wks.Final visual outcome was assessed at the end of 8 wk & tabulated.B-scan was repeated at 6-8 wk. Second surgery was considered whenever required.
RESULTS- 45 cases were studied. Majority were males, between 11-40 yrs of age involved in agricultural work with stick injury being the most common object causing injury.Visual outcome depended on the visual acuity at presentation and time since injury.
CONCLUSION-Visual outcome depends upon type of injury and extent of ocular damage. Early intervention and management improves final visual outcome.
