Intro-The structural & functional damage to the eye & the orbital contents caused by penetrated objects depend upon the size, location and the time elapsed after the injury. Imaging plays an important role.
Case outline-Present report traces the clinical course of a patient who sustained an eye injury which resulted in undetected foreign body in his left infraorbital area for a period of 5 months. Patient had complains of swelling below the infraorbital margin, pain and redness in LE .Vision was 6/24 .On examination inferior palpebral conjuctiva had sinus tract and swelling in infraorbital area with ectropion of lower lid. circumciliary congestion with inf corneal pannus with hypopyon was noted.CT showed metallic FB with sinus tract. FB extraction was done. 1 week post op –Vn was 6/9 and all signs and symptoms reduced.
Conclusion-Clinical suspicion, accurate history, imaging are essential aids in diagnosing foreign bodies. Even periorbital FBs can be associated with globe injuries.
