Introduction: Rickettsial infections are caused by a variety of obligate intracellular, Gram Negative bacteria. All ocular structures can be involved, but posterior segment involvement is more common & severe. Common posterior segment manifestations are inner retinitis with associated vasculitis & mild vitritis.
Findings: There were 4 male Patients with h/o fever followed by gross diminution of vision of sudden onset, which varied from 3 to 6wk after fever. 2 patient had h/o skin rash. All patients showed posterior segment involvement in the form of retinitis with vitritis. 2 of them had unilateral retinitis & 2 bilateral. There was h/o contact with pet dogs in 2 patients. All of them tested positive for Weil-Felix test & negative for other viral infections.
Conclusion:Findings of retinitis in a patient with h/o fever, skin rash, positive Weil-Felix test may be seen in rickettsial disease. Rickettsial retinitis should always be kept in mind in case of post viral retinal inflammation.
