introduction : Individuals approaching presbyopia may present with asthenopic symptoms as they contend with visual demands of near work, coupled with natural age-related changes in accommodation. Asthenopic symptoms are particularly cumbersome if associated with latent hyperopia

Methods: In this prospective, observational study, 30 subjects with asthenopia between 30–40 years in age, had symptoms of soreness, eyestrain, tired eyes, or headaches with near work, regularly and near visual acuity measured with snellen’s acuity chart , amplitude of accommodation (AOA) and near point of convergence (NPC) measured with RAF ruler . non cycloplegic and cycloplegic refraction done to rule out errors of refraction , fogging is then done to correct the latent hyperopia if any .

Conclusion: A thorough eye examination is important in patients with asthenopic symptoms in pre presbyopic age group because significant functional deficits can occur if latent hyperopia left untreated
