AIM:To determine factors responsible for apparent accommodation in Monofocal IOL patients.
Materials &Methods:Postoperative unaided visual acuity of more than or equal to 6/12 & N12 were test eyes(n=30) and eyes with visual acuity less than or equal to 6/12 & N12 were controls(n=30).Accommodation was measured with static and dynamic retinoscopy and with RAF ruler.Factors analyzed were optic shift, astigmatism and pupil size.
Optic shift was measured as the difference in AC depth with Cyclopentolate and Pilocarpine instillation.
Pupil size was measured on keratometry on IOL Master.Apparent accommodation was 0.88+/-0.45 D in test eyes.
RESULTS:
Multiple linear regression analysis showed ‘Oblique astigmatism’ and ATR astigmatism to have significant correlation with apparent accommodation.(p=0.059).Other variables had no correlation.
CONCLUSION:Astigmatism highly contributes to Apparent accommodation in patients with monofocal IOLs.
