Purpose
To review 7 cases of lateral rectus palsy and to study the significance of various aetiologies and presentation patterns.
Patients and Methods
This is an observational case series of lateral rectus palsy done during Oct 2017 – March 2018 in Medical College Hospital. Demographic details and clinical profile of the patients were recorded. After ruling out diabetes and hypertension, patients underwent diplopia charting, Forced duction test and MRI.
Results
Male to female ratio is 3:4. Mean age is 44.71 years.
Conclusion
In our study, unilateral lateral rectus palsy is seen more compared to bilateral variety. The occurrence increased with age. CVA is noted as the most common aetiology with male predominance. Lateral rectus palsy in younger age group has marked female predominance with causes being Benign Intracranial Hypertension, Postpartum hemorrhagic CVA and Tolosa Hunt Syndrome.
