Two cases (aged 2 years and 40 years) with lower lid laceration with canalicular tear were assessed preoperatively regarding the type of injury , lag time before repair of laceration, Intraoperative and postoperative complications , stent removal and outcome.
Patients were reviewed on postoperative Day 1,7, 15 , 45 .
Both the patients were operated under IV Sedation for lower lid tear repair along with canalicular repair using iv cannula 24 g
Results : Mean time lag between injury and repair was approximately 40-45 hours.
Stent was removed after 6 weeks in both the patients.
on syringing there was partial patency in one patient & other one had freely patient lacrimal passage
There were no complications in both the patients,no tube extrusion.
Conclusion : 24 g IV cannula offered a significant cost advantage when compared to minimonoca stent for canalicular tear repair,so its an effective and economical alternative in country like india.
