Aims and objectives: To study correlation, linear regression and agreement between Mohindra’s near retinoscopic refraction with cycloplegic refraction under cyclopentolate.
Materials and Methods: The procedure involved (a) a dry retinoscopy from 50 centimeters in an otherwise dark room to obtain Mohindra’s Near Retinoscopy (MNR) readings of both the eyes in Diopters. 1.25D was subtracted from it as derived by Mohindra. This was followed by (b) a static refraction wherever possible. Subsequently, (c) a cycloplegic retinoscopy (Cycloref) under 1% topical cyclopentolate and (d) post cycloplegic refraction (Post Cycloref) after 48 hours.
Result: Difference between the diopteric power of spherical errors, observed with MNR and with Post Cycloref, were found to be 0.25D in 38 eyes, 0.5D in 12 eyes, 0.75D in 5 eyes and ˃0.75 in eyes. For astigmatics, only 1 eye had a difference of 0.25D, 4 eyes had a difference of 0.5D, 1 eye with difference of 0.75D and 2 eyes with difference of >0.75D.
