A 55 year old male attended Eye OPD of a tertiary eye care centre with history of sudden onset of foreign body sensation,severe pain, redness, dimness of vision and watering of right eye for 2 days.Slit lamp examination of Right Eye revealed intense conjunctival congestion,hypopyon with anterior chamber reaction.There was infiltration of cornea with peripheral thinning. Copious conjunctival discharge was present.Scrapping of corneal ulcer was sent for culture- sensitivity. Gram or Giemsa stain showed no organism. Acinetobacter baumannii was grown in special culture media that was sensitive to tobramycin, gentamicin, imipenem, doxycycline and was resistant to ampicillin, piperacillin, ciprofloxacin and ofloxacin.He was treated with fortified tobramycin, moxifloxacin,atropine sulphate and timolol maleate eye drops. After 3 weeks the ulcer healed leaving a leucomatous corneal opacity. The patient was referred to cornea clinic for consideration of anterior lamellar keratoplasty.
