Introduction-Cysticercus is the larvae of Taenia solium, a pork tapeworm. The larvae reaches the subretinal space via the posterior ciliary arteries.
Case report-A 35-year-old male, driver by occupation presented with blurring of LE-12 days. He had h/o eating pork daily and travelling to several places. LE BCVA was CF at 1m; LE pupil-RAPD gr2.Fundoscopy of LE-hyperaemic disc, large area of organised exudation in supero-temporal quadrant with overlying haemorrhages and macular edema. LE B scan- curvilinear echo with exudative retinal detachment. Haematological reports- Raised Eosinophil count and ESR. Faecal samples-proglottids and eggs of Taenia solium. Diagnosis of Subretinal cysticercosis was made. He was started on prednisolone 40 mg daily and referred to VR surgeon.
Conclusion-Sub retinal cysticercosis-a rare manifestation of systemic cysticercosis was encountered and diagnosed based on adequate history, clinical findings and laboratory investigations.
