AIM: To compare clinical and molecular markers pre and post Lipiflow in patients with evaporative dry eye(EDE) and undergoing refractive surgery

METHODS: 30 patients for refractive surgery with EDE were included. Lipiflow was done on 1 of the eye of the patients. Pre and 3 days post procedure Tear Breakup time, Ocular surface disease index, Optical quality analysis system and tears analysis was done then surgery was done after 7 days.

RESULTS: Symptoms, OSDI score reduced and TBUT improved in all eyes post lipiflow. Tear analysis showed reduced pronociceptive and many inflammatory markers like IL 17A IL-1, IL-6 etc post procedure.

CONCLUSION: Dry eyes is a relative contraindication for refractive surgery.Raised ocular surface inflammation is a risk factor for ectasia. Lipiflow can be a useful procedure to reduce inflammation and dry eye post refractive surgery. It also helps to reduce the nociception in the patients thus making them symptomatically better after refractive surgery.
