BACKGROUND-Choroidal melanoma common in adults,is extremely rare in children. Childhood uveal melanoma represents 1% of all cases.
CASE- A 10 years old girl presented with acute onset pain, redness and watering in the right eye for 3 days. On examination, there was no light perception, circumcorneal congestion, shallow anterior chamber, a fixed dilated pupil and leucocoria with an intra ocular pressure of 30mmHg. Fundus showed total RD with a retrolental mass. Ultrasound revealed a mass in the vitreous cavity suggestive of a choroidal melanoma. After reducing the intra ocular pressure with intravenous mannitol, right eye enucleation was don. Histopathology confirmed the diagnosis of choroidal melanoma with intrascleral and sclera vessel infiltration. 16 Flurodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography scan did not reveal any metastasis. The patient is on follow up.
CONCLUSION-We present this case because it is a rare presentation and ultrasound was decisive in making the diagnosis
