Aim-2 year comparative study of outcome of pterygium surgery with conjunctival autograft fixation using autologous serum and fibrin glue.Materials and methods-120 patients with primary pterygium were randomly divided into 2 groups.Group 1(60) patients underwent pterygium surgery with conjunctival autograft fixation using autologous serum and Group 2(60)with fibrin glue.Patients were followed up at day 1,day7,1month,3months and 6months.Result-The mean operating time was same (10 mins) in both the groups.Postop discomfort was greater in Group I than Group II .Graft loss was observed in 12 patients( 20 % ) in group 1 and 4 patients ( 6.6%)in group2, 1 month postop. We found decreased postoperative inflammation and decreased recurrence rate at both 3 and 6-month time period with the use of fibrin glue compared with autologous serum. Both the techniques were easy to perform but fibrin glue incurred high cost. Conclusion:Fibrin glue is safer and more effective than autologous serum.
