Dr.Narendra Patidar, P17041

Aim:To compare open and closed methods of frontalis suspension with silicone rod in congenital ptosis.

Methods-This is a retrospective study conducted from march 2016 to feb2018. 43 eyelids were selected and divided into open and closed group depending upon operative procedure and outcome assessed on the basis of MRD 1 pre and post operatively.

Results-37 patients with 28 males and 9 females were included. 26 and 17 lids were in closed and open group, respectively.Mean follow up was 6.4months.Good correction (MRD3-5mm)was achieved in 58.82% and 61.53% patients with no significance(p=0.81)and under correction(MRD<3mm)in 41.17 % and 38.46%in open and closed groups respectively.Complications included wound infection in 3(11.5%) sling removal in 1(3.8% )and ptosis recurrence in 3(11.5%)patients of closed group and resuturing done in 2 (11.76%) patients of open group. Conclusion-Both methods are equally effective in correction of ptosis but recurrence rate can be decreased with open method.
