Aims: To evaluate association, stage and efficacy of treating meibomian gland dysfunction(MGD) in computer vision syndrome(CVS) patients
Materials and methods: Prospective study on 116 CVS patients were evaluated for MGD and randomly divided into group A and B. GroupA were treated with tear supplements. GroupB were treated with azithromycin ointment and tear supplements. Efficacy was analysed at end of 3months
Results: Out of 116 CVS patients, MGD was found in 45(38.8%) patients . Among them, 19 had stage1, 18 had stage2 , 7 had stage3 and 1 patient had stage4 MGD. By the end of three months, in group A, 17of 24(70.8%) patients with stage 1 and 2 MGD were cured. In group B, 18 of 21 (85.7%)patients with all stages of MGD were cured.
Conclusion: 39% of CVS patients have Meibomian gland dysfunction. Azithromycin ointment with tear supplements gave a better efficacy. So while treating a computer vision syndrome patient, its important that MGD is also evaluated and treated
