Introduction:
Eales’ disease(ED) is an idiopathic inflammatory venous occlusive disease. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the outcomes in ED Post medical management.
Methods:
In this retrospective review, demographic parameters and history with ED were recorded; Eye examination included best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA), slit-lamp biomicroscopy, and posterior segment evaluation. Patients were managed with oral steroids(OS) and Methotraxate(MTX). Data retrieved from hospital EMR analysed using SPSS22. Presenting BCVA was compared with post intervention BCVA.
Results: Of 131 eyes, all were male with mean age 31 ± 8. 34, 90% belonged to lower socioeconomic strata. 32(24.4%) consumed tobacco. 64(49%) had v/a <3/60 at presentation.18(13.7%) received MTX, 65(50%) received OS, 51(39%) received periocular steroid(POS).95(72.5%)achieved vision >6/60 post management.
Conclusions:
Medical management with OS and MTX supplemented with POS resulted in significant visual improvement.
