Myasthenia gravis (MG) is an autoimmune disorder that is characterized by variable weakness and fatigability. It is called the great masquerader owing to its varied clinical presentations.Often, MG presents with only ocular symptoms such as ptosis and diplopia.
Many diseases mimic manifestations of ocular and generalized myasthenia gravis. The clinical history and examination provide the most important data for making the diagnosis of myasthenia. Isolated ocular involvement (ptosis) is the most common presentation.
Treatment of ocular MG is aimed at relieving the symptoms of ptosis and diplopia, as well as preventing the development of generalized MG symptoms. Immune suppression with steroids is often the main therapy.
