Chronic progressive external ophthalmoplegia (CPEO) is a rare genetic disorder which affects the ocular muscles. We report two such cases, a 20 year old male presenting with bilateral ptosis and restricted extraocular movements progressing over two to three years and a 75 year old female with long standing ptosis and ophthalmoplegia both having moderate to severe ptosis with poor levator function. Bilateral frontalis sling surgery was done and satisfactory upper eyelid elevation was achieved without any serious corneal complications. We recommend frontalis sling surgery for correction of ptosis in patients with CPEO especially when levator function is compromised.
