Purpose: To report etiological factors and prevalence of dry eye
Method: Cross sectional study on 1480 patients age group of 24 to 63yrs in the year of 2017. All patients answered questionnaire including past and present systemic and ocular history; symptoms, duration, and occupation. Slit lamp examination, Schirmer test, Tear Break Up time, Lissamine green, Meibography and Osmolarity done.
Results: Among 1480,43.2% had dry eye.35% contact lens (CL)users;12% post refractive surgery cases; 4% on hormonal therapy; 13% intraocular surgeries; 61% computer users ( > 6hours) . symptoms were 69% had burning and foreign body sensation. 23% had redness and discharge, 15% had visual disturbance and 9% were asymptomatic. Severity of dry eye assessed on the basis of examination results. 13% mild dry eye and 19% severe dry eye. 68% moderate dry eye . 38% males ,62%females
Conclusion: Dry eyes are prevalent in females than males. CL, Computer usage, surgeries, occupation, are aggravating factors.
