Purpose-To correlate the ultrasonography(USG) and swept source optical coherence tomography(SSOCT) findings with clinical features in a series of sympathetic ophthalmia
Methods-Retrospective study of clinical,USG(Appasamy Marvel 2) and SSOCT(TOPCON DRI OCT-1 Atlantis)features and their correlation in 10 cases of sympathetic ophthalmia
Results-10 eyes of 10 patients comprising 90% males had mean age of 25.3 years(range 7-49).Exudative retinal detachment(RD) was seen in 4 eyes(40%) clinically.On USG,RD was seen in 4 eyes(40%) while on SSOCT subretinal fluid was seen in 5 eyes(50%).Increased choroidal thickness(CT)was seen in 2 eyes(20%) on USG(1.9 and 2.1 mm) and in 5 eyes(50%)on SSOCT(mean 395.1µ;range 118-848µ).Clinically,Dalen Fuch’s Nodules were seen in 2 eyes(20%)while it was seen in 5 eyes(50%) on SSOCT.
Conclusion-Newer imaging modality of SSOCT can detect subtle pathology not seen clinically and on USG facilitating treatment and monitoring its response in sympathetic ophthalmia
