ABSTRACT: We aimed to compare therapeutic efficacy of olopatadine ,cromoglycate & fluorometholone in preventing signs & symptoms and to detect long term side effects.
Methods:This was a prospective randomised double blinded study. A total of 75 patients with VKC(Vernal keratoconjunctivitis) were randomly assigned to 3 groups.
GroupA: olopatadine
groupB: Na cromoglycate
GroupC: FML instilled( BE) twice daily for 2 weeks. signs &symptoms were scored on point scale. each symptoms was assessed at baseline and again after 1 &2 week of treatment.
results: At weeks 1,2 all antiallergic were significantly effective in alleviating signs & symptoms. Na cromoglycate was significantly less effective than other agents.
Conclusions: It can be concluded from present study that:
1)Na cromoglycate itself cannot control acute phase of VKC.
2)Olopatadine can give relief of signs & symptoms. No major side effects seen except transient stinging sensation
3)FML is effective in VKC. No side effects seen.
