FP470 : A CASE OF BRUCELLOSIS WITH NEURORETINITIS

INTRODUCTION – Brucellosis is caused by gram negative bacteria B.melitensis and B.abortus.

CASE REPORT: A 15 year boy presented with diminution of vision in right eye and metamorphopsia since 20 days.On Examination: Visual acuity in the right eye was 20/120. Anterior segment examination of both eyes was within normal limits. Fundus of right eye revealed macular star with edema.Laboratory tests: Brucella Agglutination Test : POSITIVE. Treatment:The patient was started with systemic antibiotics and steroids with appropriate dosage. Two months after treatment visual acuity improved to 20/30 with symptomatic improvement. Fundus after 2 months revealed reduced macular edema with symptomatic improvement.

DISCUSSION- Brucellosis presents with a spectrum of clinical manifestations.Uveitis and neuro-ophthalmic manifestations are most common presentation.

CONCLUSION- Early diagnosis and prompt treatment could decrease the vision threatening complications.
