PURPOSE: To evaluate effect and association of visual display terminals (VDT) with different ocular problems in preschool children. METHOD: Preschool based study carried out in 2017-18. Data obtained from 550 parents of playschool and anganwadi schoolers in the area. Demographic characteristics and associated visual symptoms were noted in self-administered questionnaire. RESULTS: Usage of different types of VDTs and digital eyestrain in private school children was highly significant than anganwadi ones (P=0.00001). VDT users had significant ocular complaints (62.7%), mostly eye rubbing, frequent blinking. Outdoor activity proved to be protective. CONCLUSION: This study is an insight to common eye symptoms due to VDT use in early childhood. Both parents and ophthalmologists need to be aware of these issues to stop this epidemic. Many studies have stated the problem of digital eyestrain in older children and adults but no such study has been conducted in preschoolers.
