Purpose:To study corneal biophysical properties of KC eyes using optical coherence tomography(OCT) speckle distribution
Methods:20 eyes each of KC, suspect and normal were studied using generalized extreme value(GEV) function fitted on OCT speckle probability distribution(PD). Ratio of superior to inferior GEV parameters k, σ and μ (shape, scale and location) along with peak point of PD were reported.
Results:Ratio of k was 1.05±0.1, 0.86±0.12 and 0.83±0.07 respectively for normal, suspect and KC (p<0.05). Ratio of σ was 1.02±0.07, 0.96±0.06 and 0.98±0.04 respectively. Ratio of μ was 1.03±0.03, 0.98±0.02 and 1±0.02 respectively. Ratio of peak of PD was 1.05±0.08, 0.95±0.06 and 0.9±0.05 respectively(p<0.05). Conclusion:A significant change in ratio of PD parameters between normal and diseased groups indicates possible use as diagnostic indices for KC progression. Possible causes of these changes can be due to high curvature, hydration effects or cell death commonly associated with KC.
