METHOD:We report a case of 55year old female with painfull proptosis ,redness,discharge,loss of vision right eye from 14 days with restricted extraocular movements.Left eye was normal.Intravenous antibiotics were started after making clinical diagnosis of orbital cellulitis.Pateint showed no improvement.Routine blood investigations were normal.TSH was 89.87mIU/ml.Ultrasound and CT scan of eye and orbit showed increased muscle thickness sparing tendon with anechoic posterior chamber.
RESULT:Diagnosis of thyroid associated ophthalmopathy was made and patient started to systemic steroids and thyroid supplements.
CONCLUSION: Since the treatment of two diseases is completely different so our study emphasise the importance of detailed systemic and orbital examination which can lead to the correct diagnosis of rare disease.
