PURPOSE :To present the anterior segment OCT(AS-OCT) features of Kayser Fleischer(KF) ring in Wilson disease.
METHODS : Retrospective chart review of 16 patients of Wilson disease seen from August 2015 to April 2018. All these patients were evaluated by slit lamp biomicroscope and AS-OCT.
RESULTS :The study involved 9 males and 7 females(age from 8 years to 43 years). In all these patients, KF ring was seen as greenish yellow to brown deposits. In AS-OCT, the grey scale showed KF ring as intense hyper reflectivity of deep corneal stroma at the level of Descemet’s membrane in the periphery. The length of the KF ring was easily measured using AS-OCT even in children, limbal pigmentation and patients with neck rigidity.
CONCLUSIONS :
AS-OCT is an alternative method of looking at KF ring in Wilson disease. Using AS-OCT, the KF ring can be easily measured. All the advantages of AS-OCT evaluation of KF ring in Wilson disease needs to be studied further.
