Optic neuritis(ON) denotes inflammation of optic nerve and is one of the common causes of optic neuropathy. Paediatric ON is an uncommon condition with significant distinctions from its adult counterpart. We report this case of unilateral ON of left eye in a child with sudden loss of vision since day 1 with no light perception(PL). An early diagnosis was made with timely intervention. He was treated with intravenous dose of methyl prednisolone from day1-500mg once a day for 3 consecutive days, followed by a tapering dose of oral steroid. His left eye`s best corrected visual acuity(BCVA) improved remarkably from no PL to 6/6(partial) and near vision N9 within 1 month, though with persistent defective colour vision. We report this case, as ON is rare in paediatric population, it also highlights the importance of early treatment in children with steroids.
