FP320 : Health Seeking Behaviour (HSB) among parents of visually impaired Children in Delhi

BackgroundTo determine the awareness about HSB in parents of visually impaired children in a community Methods The study was conducted in population<16 years in urban area of North India, a total of 20,955 (97.3%) children who underwent visual acuity examination of these 722 children were referred with unaided visual acuity< 6/12 in any eye Results A total of 287(1.67%) were visually impaired (Presenting visual acuity < 6/12 in better eye)Nearly half of the children had suffered from some eye problem for which nearly 89% have taken treatment from eye specialist in a government/Private hospital Most of the parents/ care taker responded

they will seek advice immediately in case of any eye trauma to their children,53% of the respondents said that their children wore glasses.One fourth of participants were aware that Vitamin A is good for eye health Conclusion HSB can be further improved by creating awareness about wearing glasses and healthy diet in parents of visually impaired children
