AIM:To provide a meta-analysis of the existing protocols for cataract surgery in India through an assessment of the currently available literature
METHOD:An English language database search was performed to identify suitable articles using certain relevant broad-scope terms.The prevalent protocols in India were compared to each other and to other country standards juxtaposing the recent advancements in cataract surgery
RESULTS:As reflected from the eligible 58 articles, there are wide variations in the guidelines for cataract surgery concerning case selection, admission, preoperative medications, intraoperative and postoperative protocols. There are distinct contrast regarding- the visual criteria for case-selection, the acceptable level of systemic parameters, certain intraoperative procedures and postoperative followup
CONCLUSION:This study serves as a catalog of the prevalent evidence-based considerations, hinting on a revision of the present protocols of cataract surgery in India
