CASE REPORT:
A case of 18 years old, obese female who presented with history of headache and gradually progressive dimness of vision in both eyes since 4 months. No history of trauma. On examination, best corrected visual acuity was 6/60 in both eyes. Anterior segment examination was within normal limits with normal pupillary reaction. On fundus examination, bilateral disc oedema with fullness of veins noted. Magnetic Resonance Imaging(MRI) and Magnetic Resonance Angiography(MRA) were normal. Ultra Sonography B-Scan(USG B-SCAN) was done which showed increase in optic nerve sheath diameter to 6.30mm in right eye and 6.70mm in left eye with a “CRESCENT” sign. Lumbar puncture showed increased ICP to 26mmHg. Patient was diagnosed to have IIH. Oral acetazolamide and syrup glycerol started, symptoms and signs relieved.
CONCLUSION:
USG B-Scan provides out-patient testing, real-time imaging in a case of idiopathic intracranial hypertension.
