AIM:To study the clinical profile of lid tumors presenting to a referral centre, finding correlations between symptoms, signs and clinical and histopathological diagnosis.METHODS:A retrospective review of records of patients who underwent biopsies of lid masses between 1/1/2017 to 31/12/2018 was made.RESULTS:Among 251 histologically confirmed lesions 90.84% were benign and 9.16% were malignant tumors. The mean age at diagnosis was 48.63 years.Out of the 44 types of histopathological diagnosis, the most common benign lesions were intradermal nevus(22.8%),sebaceous cyst(14%) and squamous papilloma(10.5%).In malignant tumors both basal cell and mebomian gland carcinomas were 47.8% each. Histopathological and cinical diagnosis corresponded 75.3% but in 7 cases a clinically suspected malignancy was histopathologically diagnosed as benign.CONCULSION:It is important to understand the clinical profile of lid tumors in the local population for prompt diagnosis, treatment and better prognostication.
