Dr.V. THENDRAL, V21302
A 29 years old male presented to us with chief complaints of sudden onset of defective vision in the left eye (LE) for 2 days with a history of a head injury following road traffic accident. On examination vision in the right eye (RE) was 6/6, anterior segment and fundus were within normal limits. Vision in the LE was 1/60. Pupil showed RAPD. Fundus examination revealed polygonal whitish lesions around the disc, scattered retinal hemorrhages in posterior pole with macular edema. FFA showed perifoveal leakage and his visual field testing showed a central scotoma and the patient was diagnosed to be a case of LE Purtschers retinopathy and he has been started on IV methylprednisolone for 3 days and a tapering dose of oral steroids was given. His vision improved to 3/60 on day 3 and 6/60 on follow up after 2 weeks.
We are presenting this case of purtschers retinopathy for its rarity in occurrence and how timely intervention saved patient’s vision.
