Aim: To study clinical profile of infantile high myopia in full term born children of ≤ 6 years of age
Method: Retrospective analysis of children presenting with or developing high myopia until 6 years of age
Duration: Aug 2017 – Apr 2018
Inclusion criteria: Age ≤ 6 yrs, Cycloplegic retinoscopy > -6 DSph in atleast one eye, Full term birth
Exclusion criteria: Preterm/ premature birth, Family history of high myopia
Results: 115 cases met the criteria. 62% were males and 38% females. 78% had bilateral high myopia and 22% had unilateral. Anisometropia was seen in 31% including both unilateral and bilateral high myopes. 44% had squint. 29% had associated ocular conditions like cataract, congenital glaucoma etc. 22% had associated systemic conditions.
Conclusion: Children with infantile high myopia have a high risk of developing anisometropia, amblyopia and squint. Screening of these children for myopia can help early detection and treatment of associated ocular/ systemic conditions.
