Aim: To study visual outcome of cataract surgery in eyes with coloboma
Method:14 eyes with coloboma that underwent cataract surgery included in prospective study. Noted laterality & type of coloboma, cataract density,ocular/systemic anomalies,intra/post operative complications & visual outcome. Patients had regular post-surgery regimen/added antiglaucoma & anti corneal oedema therapy. Followed on POD 1,7, 30 & 90 & BCVA recorded. Data analysed.
Result:14 patients,age ranged 26 -70 yrs,12 males & 2 females. Unilateral coloboma in 4. Cataract of gr1 in 3, gr 2-4 in 7, mature 4. Isolated iris coloboma -2 & type 2 chorioretinal coloboma in 12, 3 had microcornea & 4 nystagmus. SICS done in 11(with PCIOL 4 & without in 7), phacoemulsification 3, vitecomy 4. Postoperatively 4 had corneal edema, raised IOP 2 & one CD. Vision recorded 6/60-6/18 in 3, >6/18 in 6 & <6/60 in 5(amblyopia /associated conditions) Conclusion: Cataract surgery though benefits only few, should be undertaken.
