Steroids are effective against many medical conditions. But its long term use causes many side effects. A 23 year old boy, presented with a history of diminution of vision in BEs for 8 months. He was using Dexamethasone 0.4mg and Cyproheptadine 4mg (Practin) for last 3years. He had a history of swelling, weakness of body and fracture of right femur within last 18 months.
On examination we found strias over multiple sites, posterior subcapsular cataract in both eyes with VA of CF 3mt PH6/18 in RE and 6/18 PH6/12 in LE, low bone mineral density. All other systems, anterior segment details, fundus, IOP and blood sugar levels were within normal limit.
Patient with PSC and steroid intake needs through systemic work up. Long term use of oral steroid for body building is an erroneous practice among young adults which implies ignorance and need awareness.
