1200 patients underwent phacoemulsification and SICS in a tertiary care rural hospital from Nov 2016 to Oct 2017. 35 patients developed PC rent during cataract surgery. In all patients vitrectomy was done to remove prolapsed vitreous. In 8 eyes sulcus fixated PC IOL; in 10 eyes iris claw lens & in 16 eyes AC IOL was implanted. Postoperative follow up was done for 6 months. 3 patients developed macular edema. 4 patients had misplacement of IOL, 2 eyes developed vitritis & 3 had uveitis. 2 eyes developed corneal decompensation where AC IOL was implanted & visual recovery was less than 6/60. 10 eyes had poor recovery of vision (6/60 to<6/24) where AC IOL was placed. Another 8 patients had moderate recovery of vision (6/24>6/18) where Iris claw lens was placed. 15 patients had good recovery of vision where posterior chamber sulcus fixated lens was placed. We conclude that following PC rent; adequate vitectomy along with placement of sulcus fixated PC IOL gives reasonably good results.
