INTRODUCTION- intraocular pressure (IOP) spike is common after ILM peeling and pneumatic retinopexy in macular hole surgery.
AIM –to analyze the incidence of glaucoma and the management in large number of patients after macular hole surgery with C3F8 tamponade.
MATERIALS AND METHODS-165 patients for macular hole surgery were analyzed retrospectively for IOP spike within first 6 weeks of post-operative period along with the management.
RESULTS-Out of 165 patients 42(25.45%) had an IOP spike. Among them 22(13.33%) had in 1 st post-operative week, 12(7.27%) had in between day 21 to day 28 and 7(4.24%) had as late as in 6 th week.
Although most of them were amenable to topical anti-glaucoma medications, but 1 patient needed PI for pupillary block, 2 patients needed gas tapping and 1 patient required trabeculectomy for uncontrolled IOP.
CONCLUSION- IOP spike after macular hole surgery requires attention. The patients should be reviewed for IOP check atleast at 1 week , 3 week & 6 weeks
