PURPOSE: To evaluate the functional outcome of sutureless scleral fixated IOLs in children with subluxation > 7 clock hours. METHODS: Interventional non comparative case series. 15 eyes of children aged 4-17 years underwent SSTIOL implantation. RESULT: The mean age was 10.47 ± 3.34 years. The mean follow up was 6.6±0.23 months. Significant improvement seen in mean best corrected visual acuity 3 months postoperatively (0.66 ± 0.47logMAR)(p=.001). Significant tilt was seen in 2 out of 15 eyes (>50). At 3 months, mean vertical and horizontal tilt was 3.17 ± 0.910 and 2.91 ± 1.540 respectively. Retinal detachment (RD) occurred in 2 eyes after 6 month follow up. Significant reduction in mean endothelial count(p<0.001). CONCLUSION. Although SSTIOL implantation provides effective visual rehabilitation, we encountered site threatening complication like RD . Long term studies with larger sample sizes are required to establish safety profile and efficacy of SSTIOL in children.
