Aim: To study the intraoperative and postoperative complications of PXF in during SICS and to document these complications so that they can be prevented in future.
Material and methods: this was a prospective, longitudinal, cross-sectional study conducted at a tertiary center from October 2015 to April 2017. 60 patients of 45 years and above, of either sex, diagnosed with cataract and PXF were included. Intraop complications were noted. Patients were followed up on postop day 1, postop day 8, post op 1 month and post op 3 months.
Results: PXF showed a prevalence of 3.95% which increased with age.76.6% had b/l PXF, 28.3% had mature cataract 40% had insufficient mydriasis.
Intraop: 10% had zonular dehiscence, 6.7% had PC rupture, 3.3% had vitreous loss, 1 patient was left aphakic and 1 got an ACIOL.
Postop:day 1: corneal edema was seen in 31.7%.
Postop 3 months: 1 patient had endothelial decompensation, 30% had irregular pupil mostly due to sphincterotomes and 20% had decentered IOLs.
