AIM-Study of incidence of amblyopia and its categorisation in congenital ptosis
METHOD- A prospective study including 30 eyes of 27 patients with congenital ptosis between age 5-20 yrs was done between July2017- April 2018. Detail ophthalmic examination was done .
RESULTS- Out of 30, mild ptosis- 40%, moderate- 33%, severe ptosis-27% cases. Amblyopia was present in 37%, out of which 45% cases had strabismus and refractive error present in 72% cases (with or without strabismus).27% cases of amblyopia without refractive error and strabismus were taken as stimulus deprivation amblyopia and all had severe ptosis.
CONCLUSION-Early ophthalmic consultation, proper refractive and strabismic correction and surgical correction of severe ptosis can prevent incidence of amblyopia in congenital ptosis.
