Introduction :The long-term results of visual and amblypia correction following surgical therapy of corneal dermoids and lipodermoids with regard to amblyopia is lacking in literature.
Methods : Refractive optical and amblyopia correction in twelve patients with dermoids, subconjunctival lipodermoids, or both were evaluated. Surgical therapy followed by optical correction was given with glasses or contact lens and mean follow up was 3.7 years
Results : A significant correlation was seen between tumor size and preoperative visual acuity. Visual acuity improved significantly after only after glasses or contact lens. Amblyopia was more often observed in patients with preoperative hypermetropia of > /= 2 diopters and astigmatism >/= 2 diopters. In patients in whom the amblyopia did not improve with glasses , contact lens were used with good results
Conclusions: Ocular surface dermoids have visual abnormalities even after surgery and need proper glasses and contact lens.
