Aim: to study the intraoperative and postoperative complications of PXF in MSICS and to document the complications so that they can be prevented
Material and method: This was a prospective, longitudinal, cross sectional study conducted at a tertiary centre from October 2015 to April 2017 and included 60 patients aged 45 years and above of either sex diagnosed with PXF and Cataract. Thorough preoperative evaluation was done. Patients were examined intraoperatively, post op day 1, post op day 8, post op 1 month and post op 3 months.
Results: 60 eyes of 60 patients were included in the study. prevalence of PXF was 3.95% which increased with age. 76.7% had bilateral PXF, 78.3% had moderate PXF, 40% had insufficient mydriasis, 71.7% had nuclear cataract, 28.3 % had mature cataract, 1.7% had subluxated lens and 5% had phacodonesis. Intraoperatively 73.3% surgeries were uneventful, 10% had zonular dehiscence, 6.7 % had capsular rupture, 3.3 % had vitreous loss, 1 patient was left aphakic.
