Aims: To study the ocular morbidity due to road traffic accidents (RTA). Methodology: A hospital based observational study was carried out on 35 patient of RTA during 1 year study period. A detailed history & ocular examination of each patient were recorded in all cases. Result: Age of the patients ranged from 6- 75 years of whom 84% were male. Decreased vision <6/12 was found in 45% of cases & 2% had total loss of vision. Most common ocular manifestation were periorbital edema with ecchymosis (80%), lid injury (64%), Conjuntival injury (33%), corneal injury (19%), disc edema & hemorrhage (10%), hyphaema (7%), lens injury ( 6%), orbital fracture (5%) and others (3.%). Only 21% of cases were using road safety measures. Conclusion: Ocular injury in road traffic accident is a preventable cause of the blindness. With the use of the proper safety measure & following traffic rules can decrease the burden of the ocular morbidity due to road traffic accident.
