Foveal hypoplasia results due to arrested foveal development.. It has a characteristic morphological appearance with absence of foveal area and is often associated with other conditions such as aniridia, albinism, achromatopsia, microphthalmos, retinopathy of prematurity (ROP), myopia and incontinentia pigmenti (IP) or may occur in isolation. This case series of 3 patients, refers to various grade of foveal hypoplasia based on structure of the fovea seen on Optical coherence tomography in patients with unexplained vision loss with nystagmus and no associated systemic symptoms. The patients with foveal hypoplasia has incursion of the plexiform layer posterior to the foveola with incomplete foveal pit development. These patients may present with nystagmus. Thus, careful assessment is required to detect these subtle changes in the foveal area which may correspond to decrease in visual acuity and needs to be confirmed on OCT.
