AIMS – Mycotic keratitis is very common & important cause of corneal blindness in India. The purpose of the study is to identify the specific causative agents and determine the risk factors of the disease seen in rural population of Eastern India.
METHODS – The study was done among all patients with clinically suspected Mycotic keratitis attended at Eye OPD of a rural Medical college of West Bengal since January 2012 to December 2014.
110 suspected cases are included in our study. At OPD detailed ocular & slit lamp examination of the patients are done with corneal scrapping from leading edge & base of the ulcer by installing anaesthetic drops. corneal scrappings are subjected to culture & microscopy with 10 % Potassium Hydroxide ( KOH ) wet mount preparation & Gram staining.
H/O Trauma, occupation of the patients are noted.
RESULT – Most frequent Fusarium sp (54 %)
As. Flavus 22 % ,candida 16 % other 7% . Farmers are mostly affected by paddy grains in harvesting season.
