Purpose: To evaluate quality and utility rate of donor cornea in a tertiary eye care centre :a retrospective study
Materials and Methods: All donor corneas received by eye bank for last 10 years were evaluated.
Results: A total of 27, 52, 44,214, 95, 98,114,123,208, 212 and 134 corneas were retrieved in the years 2007 to 2017 respectively. 34% of tissues received were from elderly donors( >70) years and 32 % were from pseudophakic eyes. The mean corneal utility rate of our study increased from 42%(2007 ) to 57.77 % (2017) . Most common cause of clinical nonutility of the tissue was poor quality (37.3%) due to >6 hours of time of enucleation to time since death followed by medical history of the donor (15.4%) and safety reasons (2.7%).
Conclusion: Retrieval of more number of pseudophakic and older donor eyes lead to relatively lower tissue utility rate in our study.
