This is a prospective study done on 750 patients with 1 year follow up . All patients underwent meticulous history , clinical evaluation, OSDI score, tear osmolarity with tear lab, schirmer score, TBUT , staining and MMP9 estimation. Follow up interval was at 3, 6, 9 and 12months. Female (55%) dominated the study. 36.8% patients exhibited hyperosmolar tear (osmolarity >308 mosml/l) and were put on adequate anti-inflammatory therapy as per DEWS2 protocol. Interestingly only 65% of them showed stained ocular surface. We therefore conclude that estimation of inflammatory markers is of paramount importance in managing dry eye disease so that effective interventions can be taken on time to restore cell volume and function. However bigger case studies with longer follow up are required to throw more light on the matter.
