INTRODUCTION: Extra capsular extraction with posterior chamber intraocular lens implantation was the most frequent surgical technique until the past decade. Recently Manual small incision cataract surgery is gaining popularity since it offers advantages comparable with that of phacoemulsification. The present study has been taken up comparing the advantages / disadvantages of standard conventional extra capsular cataract extraction and manual SICS.
Material and methods: A prospective study of 100 patients assigned to undergo conventional extra capsular cataract excision surgery (50 cases) and manual small incision cataract surgery (50 cases) for a period of 1 year
Results: We expect lesser intra operative as well post-operative complication, faster rehabilitation, lesser astigmatism and better postoperative vision in patient undergoing small incision cataract surgery as compared to conventional extra capsular cataract extraction.
